June Newsletter
Whats Happening At Outside Edge
Firstly an apology the website has not seen any updates or news for nearly a year and this will be a bumper newsletter. But steps have been made with the good folks at Toltech who manage our website to nag me to put regular news pages together so that I can keep you all up to date with all that is happening on the West Coast of Scotland.
My last newsletter was in fact almost a year ago because it carried news about our team assault on the 70 Wild Miles event. Well this year I went back to try to do the event solo again and hopefully with a degree for comfort than 2 years ago. Despite a headwind on the cycle section, which caused everyone’s times to be slower than normal, I still managed a respectable 6 hours and 6 minutes and more importantly finished in much better style.
Our kayak range continues to expand and we now keep over 40 boats in stock both river boats mainly from Pyranha and sea and touring boats from Venture, P&H and Dagger as well as sit on tops and Canadians. Key boats for this year will again be the Venture Easky 15 and the Dagger Charleston, both good entry level touring boats at £560 and £500 respectively. For those who prefer the white water the Stretch is this years success a good all round river running design with no surprises for beginners but will allow skills to progress. It also this year comes in Pyranha’s deluxe outfitting at a very reasonable £549.
We also have just taken on Advanced Frame which are inflatable kayaks but some have a frame which gives them greater rigidity for river running or touring. They start from £200 for the inflatable Dragonfly and the Advanced Frame convertible is £699 which has two spraydecks to allow it to be a double or single. They all pack up fairly small for easy transportation. These boats are fairly new to the UK and have quickly attracted a fair amount of interest.
For years we have only had Gul wetsuits in stock but this year have taken some O’Neill wetsuits as well. They offer some different designs to Gul and allow us to get a better fit for everyone. Their stretchy Psycho suit has liquid sealed waterproof seams for maximum heat retention.
On the dry side of the shop our Haglofs offering continues to grow with excellent summer weight Gore Paclite waterproofs and super comfy 100 weight fleeces. We have also taken on more North Face footwear which is proving a great success especially their Gore lined walking and running shoes.
We have spent today unpacking the spring Weird Fish delivery which as usual contains a mix of wacky tees and comfy everyday sweaters and sweatshirts. Wendy is already eyeing pieces up for herself so better get in quick.
