In the winter in Argyll the snow level can vary enormously yet when
the conditions are right Scotland can offer winter routes to compare
with the very best for elsewhere.
Ben
Nevis in particular is well known world-wide for it’s winter
routes and every year climbers come from Europe and beyond to test
themselves here.
Most of the routes are found at a reasonable height on the mountain,
most of the routes on Ben Nevis finish on the summit plateau, and
so involve a full day out with a few hours walking required to get
to the foot of the climb and back.
The exception here is on Aonach Mor where the gondola used for skiers
and snowboarders can be used to avoid nearly 3000ft of ascent and
descent and so the cliffs here are becoming very popular for training
or for climbing the day after.
