Oban isn’t amongst the hilliest area of Scotland but the fact
that most of the hills overlook the sea and offer spectacular views
more than make up for that fact. There are in fact 9 Munros ( mountains
over 3000ft ) within a 20 mile radius of Oban including Ben More
on Mull.
Glencoe is only a hours drive north and that opens up a
huge amount of extra walking most of it in the “more strenuous”
category and Ben Nevis, Scotland and the UK’s highest mountain,
is a few miles further on.
As well as the more serious mountains there is also a lot of easy
walks available, some around island such as Kerrara or Iona, some
on forestry trails and some on smaller hills. So overall Argyll
has a lot to offer the walker whatever their level.
Our aim in these pages is to offer a taster of the range of walking
the area has to offer by doing guides o some of the more popular
walks, those that visitors to the shop most often ask about. We
therefore will be doing route guides, including photos and a map
for the following hills:
Ben More, Mull
Ben Cruachan
Ben Lora, Benderloch
This listing is a for starters only. As time allows we will be adding
to the routes available. We keep in stock a good selection of walking
guides covering most of the local mountains as well as the easier
walks. In addition the Forestry Commission do an excellent little
leaflet of the walks in their woodlands most of which are family
orientated with notes on what kind of flora and fauna you might
expect to find.
